Tuesday the 19th November – The Lindisfarne Gospels come to Rotary
Tuesday the 19th November saw the visit to Rotary Great Aycliffe of a facsimilie of what may be one of Britain’s most important historical documents, definitely one of the North East of England’s – The Lindisfarne Gospels.
The book was accompanied by Ross Wilkinson who is the Learning and Engagement Manager, Durham University Library and Collections.
He gave a very knowledgeable and enthralling talk on the history of the Gospels to a totally captivated audience.
Being able to touch and examine the document with all the intricate drawings and exquisite penmanship was a once in a lifetime opportunity for which I am personally grateful.
Thank you to Fiona for introducing Ross to Rotary Great Aycliffe and a very fascinating subject delivered in a riveting way.
